Situation, never what you want it to be

I understood what the point is. What I need to feel good again. It's pain, the inner one, the soul's one, the one that doesn't even get to show outside. If I suffer, I feel good. If I suffer inside, the pain goes through layers over layers of myself and when it gets outside it looks like I'm stronger, instead of weaker. And suffering makes me not eat, and when I don't eat I feel good.
Did you notice? Binge arrived when I was feeling better. In my beloved China, and after China. During this month, in which contrary to all expectations I'm doing good in all of the exams. This Summer, from the social point of view, was great. And all of this affected negatively my food habits. I still have to understand why seeming happiness turned into binging.
The point is that today, feeling bad for someone, I'm perfectly good with the stomach closed. I didn't eat, and I didn't even feel the urge to. Absolutely nothing (well actually, I was forced to have lunch but I didn't touch ANYTHING this afternoon).
This situation is quite weird, it's all an intricate vicious circle. I feel bad, I want to cry, I want to throw up, my stomach closes, I don't eat = I FEEL GOOD.
I feel good, I laugh, I make jokes, I have friends, I go out, I don't have limits, I have breakfastlunchdinner then snacks and afternoon binge and night binge = I FEEL BAD.

The solution is: feeling bad to feel good.

So thanks, thank you useless, ignorant, childish, mean (all of these words start with the letter "i" in Italian) former friend. Thanks to you and to the fact that you make me feel bad, I will start feeling good again.
I'm elated, but it's a weird elation, a bit hysterical. It feels like it's a psychopathic elation.
But I don't eat and I celebrate.

I'll take my time as I drift and die

L'abbuffata peggiore è stata quella dell'altro ieri.

I'm writing a quick update. Nothing important has happened these days, but I'm not very present even on Facebook, so I don't want to neglet the blog either.
Days roll by in total apathy and almost solely isolation. I'm locked into my house all day long, everyday. The only two friends I have went back to university, but however going out with them would mean "going to eat a quick snack" (which, translated in common language, is a high-calory dinner, possibly pizza and beer or ice cream), which I try to avoid as much as I can because, yeah, I do nothing but binge during my apathetic domestic afternoons.
I don't know what this is due to. I can't pass a whole afternoon without touching food. Sometimes it's just a small snack, sometimes it's just a glass of milk, but most of the times it's real binging.
Today, for example, I started with a glass of milk and milk bread. Then, unhappy of that, I added half a glass of coffee to the milk (unluckily I cannot live without caffeine and its lack makes me sick) and another sandwich. To finish it, I found a kit-kat. And I didn't even devour it. I ate it slowly, bite after bite, wondering why I was doing that and without managing to stop.
And, to be honest, this wasn't even my worst binge. It wasn't even a binge, on balance. I mean, on the caloric intake side, of course it was, but as far as the quantity is concerned it would be less than a normal meal for a normal person, though far more than a snack.
Yesterday I managed to avoid binging. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner but I didn't touch anything between meals. Nevertheless, I wonder how it's possible for me not being able to live without food, while a few months ago I could fast for days. I can't explain that, no. I absolutely have to start reducing my stomach size. I can't wait to go back to Rome and do it.
My worst binge was the day before yesterday. My mum had cooked meatballs for my dad, while I had gone to eat with my friend the day before (the above said "eating a quick snack" which was in fact a whole pizza), but not managing to eat the entire pizza, under my friend's pressing, I had a doggy bag (6 slices). Well, the afternoon at issue I devoured 4 meatballs with tomato sauce and 4 slices of pizza (two of them had a potato and sausages topping, the other two were a mix of sausages, spinach, potatoes and ricotta cheese... I could throw up if I think about it again!!)... ending it with two slices of wholemeal toast bread I cleaned my plate with, and my usual glass of milk to wash down the food. Then two hours later, not to let my parents suspicious, I also had dinner. I've been feeling sick the whole night, needless to say, because although not used to fasting anymore, my body has never been used to such a kind of binging either. Long ago I used to eat a lot, yeah, but I distributed snacks during the day and I didn't binge with the only aim of stuffing myself with food and making my stomach blow up. Long ago, I used to eat with relish.

Well, I started this with the purpose of writing just a few lines, but in fact here I am, complaining about my own mistakes and crying spilt milk (this is just the case, since there's milk in all of my bingings)!

I have an absolute need to start my indipendent life again. I need to have fixed limits, to plan what, how much and when to eat. To weigh every gramme and count every calorie. Other than having my personal fridge, not shared with family, with all those temptations and unhealthy fat food. Just to make an example, my mum is literally crazy for dairy products and mozzarella by-products (stracciatella, burrata, as well as stracchino, certosa and alikes -all kinds of soft fresh Italian cheese-). I need to have my own beedroom, my room, my timetable, my city.
And I love my family, I adore it. But I need to live far away from them to survive this world and food.

What a drag, I'm sorry I only write to you when things don't turn the right way. It seems that I'm constantly depressed, apathetic, locked up in my own world, with no social life. That's not true, well, from a certain point of view. It often happens to me that I feel this way, but I'm also the opposite. I still have friends, when I'm in Rome I go out very often (like, going out and dance four times a week last year was my own method of exercising, it really helped me losing all that weight). So, on the whole, I'm not this negative all the time. I only have to wait, for now, to make things go back at what they where. I need to be patient to feel good again. It's not the right moment now, but it won't be long. I would like to be positive, I would really like to. If only this life could let us.

Flashbacks

"Tu ti tagli, vero?"
"Io... no, sono graffi."
"Ah."

A quanto pare, no.

I was here, lying on my bed, waiting for Morpheus to come and hug me in his coveted oblivion, and in the meantime I was thinking about my China. And I had this flashback.
I'm arguing very badly with my roommate. I make her feel bad, I didn't mean to, I'm feeling terribly guilty. I do anything I can to settle things back, I don't manage to, I must punish myself. I scratch my arms till I bleed. Especially my left wrist, with my nail scissors. Rather than scratches, for the first time ever I think this is a cut. Not too deep, but it created two raised layers of skin at its sides, like a wall. And it bleeds. It's quite clear, even under the leather studded wristband I ALWAYS wear at my left wrist. No one seems to notice anything, as usual. Actually I don't think they pretend, I'm genuinely persuaded that the wristband covers the scratches and cuts. But, that late afternoon, my friend takes me with her to meet two friends of hers who have lived in Beijing for a long time. One of them, during his golden years, was a punk. I sit, wine bottle in my hands. I say hi, I strike an experienced punk pose, fuck yeah, I'm cool, I'm a rock. When, almost whispering:
"You cut yourself, don't you?"
"I... no, they're scratches."
"Uh."

They were not invisible at all under the wristband. And to make me notice it is a total unknown person who didn't own me anything, and who I didn't own anything to. And right now I wonder, why people who should be next to you are the ones that pretend nothing happens? Why do they pretend they don't see? I don't want to say I actually wanted them to see anything, but once I don't manage to disguise, don't you even worry a little bit about a person you call your "friend"? As far as we know, no.
And I end up feeling nearer unknown men with long hair, beard, and alcoholic stomach.

Pull the fucking trigger

A ROMA, ragazze!

Senza drammi, eh.

Today I've come back from Rome again, with one more ray of hope. Finally I've also passed the oral part of that famous Chinese exam, which everyone here has learned to share with me joys and pains of. I'd say sorry, in fact, for having bored you all with this matter, but it felt like the one and only important thing in these days.
Well, as far as this exam is concerned, my university has decided as usual that I'm not destined to experience a stroke of luck. After giving us the results of the written test only 4 days before the oral call, now the slut-in-chief Chinese II professor would want to expect that we managed to prepare everything (18 extracts in traditional characters, with reading, translation and grammar explanation, other than 10 themes to be prepared orally) in time. Of course, my case was a bit extreme, since I managed to prepare only 4 extracts out of 18 till the day before the exam! o.o But it went how it went. 24. Despite being pissed off and disappointed by the way I was treated, I took it ad STAYED. And I'm also saying farewell to this chapter, which has left me speechless one more time.
Just this morning I also went and settled the bill for the room. Finally!! It's such a relief to have less worries in this head, which is always full of bad thoughs.
And in october I will be in Rome. IN ROME, girls! Where everything's possible. Where miracolous diets and fasts happen, where you dance all night on 12 cm high heels without eating anything, except for a fruit, in the whole day. Where you lose extra kilos as if they were Little Thumbling's pebbles.
I've read about the meeting of the Facebook girls in Rome, on October 1st. I will arrive in the city that day, with my big luggage and the idea of moving in soon, and I could also be there. But I won't. I won't be there. I won't be there. I won't be there.
I still have this thing in my mind, the idea of not "being right", of not fitting in anywhere. Probably (for sure, in fact) I'm just fussing to much. But I feel like I don't belong in this group either. I could stay and watch you from a distance, in my corner, sitting alone. As I once wrote on Facebook (this sentence was later stolen, without credits, without reason, maybe mistaken for somebody else's quote):
I am not ill.
I don't cry.
I eat. Too much.
I am here anyway.
I am alone.
I.

I think this could represent in an absolutely minimal way everything I think and feel about this matter. I feel wrong. I feel like I can't stay among you because, among you, there are girls who have been suffering from ED for ages, girls who are really sick, girls who want to recover. I, on the contrary, don't even think I'm ill. I don't feel worthy to be with you.
However, though in my corner, I'm here anyway. Because I find myself thinking: if I'm actually this right, why do I still have scars from scratches on my wrists? Why did I fast? Why did I lock myself in my room, lying on the bed, crying or sleeping, living like an amoeba, for days? Why, after eating no more than 400 kcal a day, after weeks of ABC and Rainbow diets, did I feel like throwing up as soon as I took a small bite of bread?
I don't know, I don't know anything. What I know is that I'm not ok, but I'm not sick either.
So no, I won't be there with you. I will stay in my corner and wait.
With no tragedies, uh.

When angels deserve to die

Completamente, totalmente sbagliato. Perchè, ragazze mie... HO PASSATO L'ESAME DI CINESE!!!! =D
Cin cin!

Well, how do we say? Much ado about nothing. Being in all the dumps, anxiety, nervous breakdown, stress, worries. I acknowledge that I was wrong. Completely, totally wrong. Because, my girls... I PASSED MY CHINESE EXAM!!!! =D
And I can't believe it, I go and see the results, I watch that word: "passed". And I look for the mistake in any way, for the swindle. But there's no swindle this time. I did it, me, by my own effort. It was the hardest stumbling block to overcome during my whole university career. I still have to do several exams to graduate, yeah, but now it looks like everything will go smoothly. It's all downhill from here, now there's no "I will never do it" in my head. Now there's "I'm doing it".
There's still the oral test to be done on the 20th. But now I'm sure I'll do it. I've already passed it.
And there's a sentence appearing in my head which gives me goose pimples as I just think it, write it: "I did not fail!".
It's such a strange idea, not being a failure, once in a lifetime.
And thanks, thanks to everybody, thanks to the girls who read my blog and commented, encouraging me. Even though a university exam looks like nothing in the view of a lifetime, it was the one important thing for me at present. This thing would have influenced my actions, feelings and senses until next January, at least. And you made it possible for me to have a ray of hope in the groundless despair that was already pervading me, as I was ready as usual to see a negative result. Which was not there!! I don't know which one is bigger, my happiness or my surprise. Surprise, I suppose. After all, I know that even this cheerfulness is short and phoney. Tomorrow I will go back to my bored apathy, to my amoeba life. But for now, fuck, for now I want to enjoy my little, silly success, which is important in my little silly world.
Let's put off till tomorrow the return to anxiety and worries, let's put off till days to come the problems of an unsatisfactory life. Let's pretend that today time has stopped, and for a second let's imagine, let's drink a toast. Let's drink a toast to life, that sometimes brings us some tiny success.
Cheers!

If I drown, let me sink

Nulla.
Ed è morto così, mentre riposava. Totalmente a buffo.
Meglio lasciarsi morire d'inedia.

Back from my umpteenth trip to Rome, from the umpteenth exam. It went how it went. Well, some people say that this idiotic professor doesn't correct the texts before a month, this means that I'll have to wait a lot to know how it went. But I already know, I suppose it was as usual. I didn't pass it, or I got a mark between 20 and 25. Not more, never.
And stress goes on, I'm having another exam on the 20th, then one on the 27th, then a roll call on the 30th, but I hope I can postpone it of some days, cause I will never be able to study all those things. And obviously we will be starting again in October. But let's leave to the future what will happen in the future.
Today I got some news that made me feel like death is more "real" than it seems. We're not immortal. I'm not immortal, nor is the people who surround me.
The father of a boy I know from kindergarten's days is dead. Well, so, this guy was a health fanatic. Sporty, very athletic, he owned a fruit and vegetable shop so he was also, you know, careful with food. He had no sin: he didn't smoke, he didn't drink. Nothing.
And he died just like this, while he was resting. Totally randomly. People think about heart-attack or ictus, or something like this. The town is speechless. I found it out tonight, cause I was obviously away, but it left me with no words, too.
Cause fuck, you see, you can do anything to have a healthy life, but death fucks you anyway in the most unexpected moment, for no obvious reason.
What's the use, then, of working so hard?
It's better to be left dying of inanition.

Just keep your head above

Stupide speranze.

Sei libero, in libertà

I feel a huge need of writing, I've been feeling it for the whole day (and I did, before, to explain myself, but I'm afraid I fell for the umpteenth time in the appearance of trivial excuses, a hide-and-seek behind supposed rationality, covering the eyes with the arms which embrace the head and screaming: "I DIDN'T DO IT!").

Tomorrow I will be in Rome again, travelling again, with the heavy backpack again. For the umpteenth exam.
I'm making great efforts in this session, uh? But the results are late to show, or it's better to say that they all suck.

When you're 22 it's normal to try to rationalize and give a judicious explanation to what you are, what you feel, looking for answers, for a definition to explain yourself. When you're a child it doesn't matter. When you're a teenager you don't care.
Probably, as a matter of fact, even Dieting which I wrote about before does not represent me. With this I don't want to say that it doesn't represent me at all, it could be (and it's quite plausible that it does, indeed), I just want to say that I needed to give a definition to an inner trouble that nobody, nowhere, understands. Which is misunderstood, by anybody indiscriminatingly. In a certain sense, we could talk about global racism. Or not, or the contrary, cause I don't feel good in any group whatever its category is.

The day after tomorrow (tomorrow, in fact, if you see what time it is) I'm having an exam for which I've studied less than half of the books I had to study, but instead I'm here, writing incomprehensible craps hoping that one single soul out there could understand the entagled knots of my thoughs.
Not on your life. Stupid hope.

You're free, at liberty
is this what you want, sometimes I wonder.

I sell souls at the side of the road

No.
Mai. Punto.
Fanculo! Cristiddio, FANCULO!

Let's see if this time I will manage to explain what I mean. What I think, what I feel, the doubts I have and the questions I ask to myself, without having any answer and without knowing whether I want it or not, an answer.
For the umpteenth time, I'm here (almost turning 22, with the usual fear of my birthday within a few days, as it unfailingly happens every year) talking about my relationship with the definition of ED. Eating Disorders. Disturbi del Comportamento Alimentare, in Italian. The list of eating disorders does not stop at anorexia, bulimia and binge, and it doesn't result only in underweight or obesity.
There's a neverending number of eating disorders, with several causes and effects, several "courses" (I don't know how to define them, I'm trying to write with my mind clear but it's not always easy, especially after the usual accusationsaccusationsaccusations). And then, beyond eating disorders, there's an endless series of mental illnesses, more or less serious, which match the relationship of people with food and their lives. Given my poor knowledge, in fact, of what concerns mental illnesses, I will focus on trying to say what happened to me.
Is it wrong to say that everything started as a simple diet, though drastic, just a "way to lose weight"? No, it's not wrong. But as it's not wrong for me, it wouldn't be wrong for a lot of other people. Saying this, I don't want to play the card of "I'm not the only one in any way", since as I said in my last post, what frightens me is not the uniqueness at all. Nevertheless, it's not wrong to say that a "simple diet" turned, quite soon, in an obsession. I didn't "lead myself" (neither I want to) towards anorexia or anything similar. But, after all, I didn't have the slightest intention to make that diet become an obsession. There's an eating disorder, one of what I describe as "minor EDs" (but I don't think there are more and less important EDs, just some of them are more known than others), which is called Dieting (HERE and HERE are two attempts, in Italian, to describe what it is). Dieting, if taken to extremes, could indeed lead to a serius ED like anorexia nervosa.
But if a person "suffers" from Dieting, it doesn't mean that she's pretending to be anorexic, to have an Eating Disorder or anything like this.
This is the classic, damned middle course, in which you find yourself to be neither one thing nor the other (neither healthy nor ill) and at the same time the two categories you don't fit into would loathe you and run you down cause you "pretend". You pretend you're sick. You pretend you're ok. You're a liar, untruthful, braggart. And you're also false, even hypocrite. YOU don't deserve to be neither here nor there.

For now, inquiring about Dieting, I feel like I fall into that damned category of nothing. Will I ever be diagnosed with an Eating Disorder?
No.
Never. Full Stop.
No psychologist will ever take me for a ride in trusting him
Fuck. Goddamn, FUCK!

Go ask the angels if they're calling to thee

Yesterday I came back from Rome. I had that fuckin' Chinese exam. I don't think I passed it, no, for the fourth time.
Disgust.
But I found a house. At least.
Speaking about a house, I've gone through an incredible journey to manage to come back home, yesterday. Except that I didn't want to come home, at all. But I didn't want to stay in Rome either. For a series of unfortunate events, I spent endless hours (from 3.15 to 10.30 pm) among bus changes, moves, etc, while usually it takes me about 3 hours, sometimes a bit more, but always less than 4. And well, while travelling I was reading Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff, cause my friend and I decided it was high time to meet Chuck, after avoiding him for so long. And I read, and travelled, and changed buses, and dragged around my extremely heavy backpack with the sleeping bag, and I didn't want to come home, and I didn't want to go back. At a certain point I just wanted to keep going, through unknown streets, with the only things I had in that moment. I wanted to walk among people, at the exact centre of the people, I wanted to watch them flow at my sides in both ways. I just wanted the coins to buy water and coffee. I wanted my book to read, sitting on a bench with the backpack at my feet. Tanktopskirtconverse. The backpack is customized. There's nothing cool inside it, just a lot of useless notebooks, Chinese books, the dictionary.
I haven't eaten for the whole day. It's just that when I came back in this damned house, my mum left me the dinner to eat and I binged at 10.30 pm. Don't know, I guess I could call it a caloric binge, though the amount of food was not that of a normal binge.
People rising from the highways
and world war is the battle cry.

Anorexorcism

A me non piace, vorrei trovare qualcosa di unico in me.
A volte mi faccio paura!
BU!

The few times you get to read an article with sense, perhaps in a waiting room of a dentist waiting for your grandmother to be put a dental braces, then you find out you're not able to find it again anywhere else to understand and analyze it better.
Well, today I was waiting at this dentist's and there was Glamour. I love Glamour, I love to take it down a peg or two page after page because of its neverending un-fantasy, because of its stereotypes and clichés. And yet, there was this article today written by a woman whose name was not there.
She talked about anorexia, bulimia and sex. And I extremely identified myself with it. Anorexia of love, bulimia of sex. You avoid the former, you get rid of it, you trickle and ration it as you do with food, with calories, with grams. You binge on the latter without tasting its flavour, you use it to fill you up and then throw it up, far away, as if it never happened. And you do it again and again, always, with the first one who turns up... without being careful (actually I think that all this was a kind of propaganda for contraceptives, indeed).
Well, contraceptives or not, I wondered: what if my problem was sexual, not an eating disorder?
Cause I already said time and time ago that I don't think I suffer from anorexia or bulimia. Moreover, I don't think I have any intention of clarifying this matter, since I hugely despise psychologists, psychiatrists and people of their kind, and I'll never go and give money to someone who will probably confirm I have some kind of problem just so I will be induced to give them even more money.

Well, today has just put some other strange ideas on my mind, more unsolved questions and disgust for myself, shame on me, shame on me always!
You don't eat! You're horrible! You eat too much! You suck! You don't fuck! You're frigid! You fuck too much! You're a slut!
The problem is that no matter what we do, we can be alright or feel bad, we're always wrong. And it's wrong to think we're alone, to raise ourselves at a uniqueness state which doesn't exist. We're a whole, and there are people who don't like this. I don't like this, I'd like to find something unique in me.
 Sometimes I'm scared of myself!
BOO!

Obsession, even when it's not

Schifo? Sì, suppongo di poterlo definire così.
Schifo.

Weight is still an obsession.
Yesterday I weighed 63.3 kg, it's a weight that all the people I know consider a goal for me. Except that I weighed 60 kg six months ago, and now these 3 poor extra kilos obsess and haunt me as they'd never done before.
Going back to 60 kg would mean having control again, reaching a normal weight to start the descent towards what I want. And I don't want much, I don't wanna weigh 38 kg (oh yes, I want it instead, it would be beautiful, it would be perfect, but rationally I know that I will never get there so I pretend I don't want it)... well, officially, people who know me know I want to get to 55 kg. I couldn't say less to them, they think it's even strange I wanna go back to 60 kg. They don't realize that 55 would be a poor ideal weight, it would be the least I could do! As a matter of fact, I would like to reach less than 50 kg... like 48/47 kg...
but men, I'm 22, and when you're 22 people start to think about "strange" things if you get weights you've never gotten before.
I should have started such a journey before, instead of using food as an opposite weapon.

And still at the end, to say the truth, I'm not doing anything real to lose weight.
I'm an amoeba, of historical apathy. I haven't had lunch today (wow, cool, fantastic, yeah), except that after the 5.00 o' clock tea I had this crazy whim into my head, and I went to McDonald's. And I ate a Crispy McBacon.
And then I came back home and even had dinner. Disgust? Yeah, I suppose I could call it so.
Disgust.

She. There. Always.

I vestiti.

My friend.
The one who's been next to me, always, even when we were far away. Of course, I don't mean physical closeness, it's the mental one that matters, the one of soul and heart.
And the longest I live, the more I realize that I can act like a rock as much as I want, but it's not true at all that I would be ok if I left all the people I know. It could happen for everyone, but not for her.
My friend V.
She's the only one who could read this blog without judging me, who would understand every single word in it because, in a world made of allusions and sentences left unfinished to let you understand without saying it all, I bet that she's lived it all. She's lived almost everything that I've lived.
Hundreds of miles away, in different situations, with a single obsession. Food. Diet. The scale. Clothes. The fear of gaining those kilos that we're actually gaining again.
Speaking of this in the plural, referring to a real person and not one met behind a computer, feels quite strange.
But we're this way. Common.
We've been writing pages of our lives together for years. Past and future trips, university, even China. And she's not the same pole of the magnet at all, we're different from each other like red and black. And even this one is a common difference, which makes us live together.
If I made a list of the unforgettable moments lived together, I would never stop writing.
